Dusty Robotics Announces General Availability of the FieldPrint Platform, FieldPrinter 2, and Floor Elevation with Leading Capabilities to Connect Design and the Field | Construction Dive (2024)

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. —

Dusty Robotics, the creator of multi-trade automated layout, announces the general availability of its FieldPrint Platform, including the second-generation FieldPrinter 2 robot, comprehensive BIM-to-field automated workflows, and a Floor Elevation product.

On the average jobsite,10% of profit margins are eroded due to poor coordination, and daily life in the field is dominated by conflict. These challenges arise from the lack of a single view of what to build.

The FieldPrint Platform ensures all stakeholders see the same information, from the design phase through to the job site, through a multi-trade layout solution that has been built from the ground up to ensure design integrity from BIM to the field. Its hardware, software, and services integration enables construction teams to protect profits and compress schedules by empowering field teams with actionable information from the digital model.

Customers with early access, including some of the largest general contractors and trade contractors in the United States, are excited about the FieldPrinter 2.

“Working with FieldPrinter 2 has been an upgrade for Mortenson in every measurable way. The Dusty Portal and the updated Dusty iPad app lets us make changes in the office and have them transferred right away to our layout team in the field,” said Travis Brock, Integrated Construction Manager, Mortenson. “Overall, we are completing our layout more quickly from start to finish with the new FieldPrinter 2, getting our teams building faster and with the same great accuracy and dependability of the original.”

"Dusty Robotics has proven to be a transformative partner for PCI. The advancements we’ve experienced with the FieldPrinter 2 are remarkable. Compared to its predecessor, which was already working well for our team, not only is the quality of the lines sharper and the text is clearer, but the robot's navigation on our jobsites is both swift and precise,” said Trevor Lykins, Performance Contracting, Inc.

The FieldPrint Platform now includes Portal Reporting as a bidirectional communication layer between the office and the jobsite.

Portal Reporting: Bridge the Office and the Field
This feature keeps project teams connected to the field in real-time, enabling them to monitor layout progress remotely. Key benefits include:

  • Trade-Specific Progress Monitoring and Completion: View print progress by trade so that resources can be allocated to ensure the project stays on track.
  • Cost Tracking: Detailed metrics allow for allocation of layout costs across multiple trades so that accurate chargebacks can be made to each participating trade partner.
  • Final Layout Review: Get clear documentation of what has been printed, in order to preserve an audit trail of exactly what has been communicated to the field for installation.

In addition to the general availability of the FieldPrint Platform and FieldPrinter 2, Dusty Robotics is also launching an all-new product: Floor Elevation.

Floor Elevation: Measure quality in the third dimension
Many projects, such as data centers, hospitals, and industrial automation, require delivery of a flat and even concrete slab suitable for level installations. Current methods for measuring floor elevation are manual and error-prone. With the new Floor Elevation product, Dusty Robotics delivers quality beyond two dimensions. This capability streamlines delivery of high-quality slabs by enabling automated measurement of floor elevation at key points along the robot’s path. Benefits include:

  • Measure elevations:Automate the accurate capture of floor elevation during layout, eliminating the need to bring on an additional subcontractor.
  • Quantify levelness:With precise measurements at designated locations, calculate the exact amount of material needed to fill, eliminating waste.

“The construction industry falls short on delivering quality because too much valuable information is hidden from view, locked away in digital tools,” said Tessa Lau, CEO and co-founder of Dusty Robotics. “The FieldPrint Platform and Floor Elevation products enable contractors to make that invisible information tangible and actionable to everyone in the field, empowering all trades to deliver their highest-quality work on a safe, efficient job site.”

Availability
The FieldPrint Platform, FieldPrinter 2, the Dusty Portal, Floor Elevation, and more are available now with usage-based pricing. This enables builders to deliver higher quality with a low cost of entry that scales to the needs of their project portfolio.
